Biking

My brother and I rode our bikes to the family barn last weekend. It seemed to be all uphill and a lot farther than I remember it being. Driving on the highway is about 110 miles but since we were biking we had to use side roads and got a bit off track. We ended up going 160 miles and taking the harder paths to get there. The final (3rd) day was a horribly long uphill 26 miles. Only after we finished did we hear about the easy flat way around the lake that we could have taken. Don't always trust Google maps.

It was a good time but my legs weren't functioning well the following days. It was nice to have Uncle Tom there to help out with everything (most importantly ridding the barn of mice and bats!) If you want to see more go to the "Pictures" tab on the right. -->

This past Friday I rode with my brother and his brother-in-law to my grandmother's cottage on Lake Erie. We somehow got caught in a huge storm that left us completely drenched. At least we were able to get some cold beer and good pizza before we all fell promptly to sleep.

While in Japan I saw a lot of vending machines. They sold drinks, corn soup, beer and condoms but none that I saw sold this (seen on the way to the cottage)...

Cedar Point

I went to Cedar Point, "America's Roller Coast" with my friend Steve. The place was filled with high school seniors on their "Senior Day". Good fun and upset stomachs were had by all.

Grandma's Attic

This is my grandma's attic. These faces always creaped me out, especially with those sunglasses.

I spent Wednesday afternoon drinking alone in a bar called The Melt which specializes in grilled cheese style sandwiches. Was there to watch the Champions League semi-finals be made a mockery of by poor officiating. I ordered the Tokyo Tuna Melt which was awesome. The best part is that it is only a 2 minute walk from my grandma's.

After I dropped my mom off at the airport I saw a pickup truck advertising this.

Biking

I bought an old Univega bike from Craig's List the other week. It is from 1985 and was only used 3 times. I am slowing getting it up to speed so it will last a trip to my family's "barn" near the Ohio/Pennsylvania border.

As I hadn't ridden a bike (if you don't count the mountain biking park) for any distance in years, I took it out for a spin to my old hometown about 10 miles from my grandma's house (more on that in another post).

My childhood home

The past weekend I went riding with my brother and some of his friends to watch a baseball game at old League Park. It is The Indians' old stadium during the early 20th century where Babe Ruth hit his 500th homerun. Most of the stadium is gone now except for the main entrance wall. There were two teams playing on the field wearing old timey uniforms and playing with 1860's rules (one of which means no gloves for catching the ball).

On my ride to Hometown I saw the bird below.

It reminded me of this.
